Aguero is in the final few months of his contract at Manchester City and so far the two sides are yet to reach an agreement over a new deal.

He could move on from the Etihad Stadium in the summer on a free transfer and is likely to be an attractive prospect for a number of clubs.

Aguero has been linked with a move to Barcelona with claims that he could look to reunite with his Argentina team-mate Lionel Messi at the club.

But it has been claimed that the striker is unlikely to move to Catalunya in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are on the verge of financial trouble and will have to raise funds in the summer no matter who becomes president of the club later this month.

The Catalan giants will need to raise around €100m from player sales and wipe off €200m from their wage bill at the end of the season in order to steady the ship again.

Messi is out of contract in the summer as well and while Barcelona want to keep him, they are struggling to continue to pay his astronomical salary.

The Catalan giants are in no position to afford a veteran striker such as Aguero, who would command a large salary.

Barcelona’s summer plans are likely to be based on signing young players on relatively low salaries.
