Wright is in the final months of his contract at Pittodrie and Scottish Premiership table-toppers Rangers have been in touch with their league rivals to snap him up.

The Gers could look to agree on a pre-contract with the 23-year-old winger to sign him in the summer, but are also considering options to bring him to the club during this transfer window.

Whether Rangers sign Wright this month or in the summer, seeing the Aberdeen academy graduate join one of their rivals will be a hard pill to swallow for the Dons, according to Pittodrie great Harper.

However, Harper is of the view that it would be better for all parties if Wright leaves the Reds this month if he has already made his mind up, although he could still offer a lot to Derek McInnes’ side.

While nobody likes to see talented players leaving Pittodrie, joining one of Aberdeen’s main rivals makes it more of a bitter pill to swallow for supporters“, Harper wrote in his Evening Express column.

Wright will have his reasons for wanting move elsewhere, but it’s still frustrating from a Reds perspective.

It remains to be seen whether the Aberdeen youth academy graduate will move in this month’s transfer window or whether he will leave in the summer.

Although Wright still has plenty to offer on the pitch for the Dons between now and the end of the season, if he has made his mind up about where he wants to go next, I think it would be best for all parties if he moved sooner rather than later.

While Rangers are looking at ways to bring Wright to Ibrox during the ongoing transfer window, it remains to be seen if they will manage to do so.
