Goldson has been a rock in the heart of defence for Steven Gerrard’s team, with Helander and Leon Balogun sharing the duties to partner up with him.

The 28-year-old has played every single minute of Scottish Premiership action for the Gers so far this season, playing an integral role in his team’s stellar defensive record.

Gers centre-back Helander revealed that Goldson’s leadership qualities and consistency on the pitch has been key to the Scottish giants’ solidity in the backline, qualities that positively impact his own game as well.

Asked how he feels his game complements Goldson’s skills on the pitch, Helander told Rangers TV: “First of all, he is a good player, Connor.

“I think he has been one of our most consistent players this year.

“He is a leader on the pitch and plays with confidence.”

Helander is happy with how Rangers have performed so far in the current campaign and stressed they need to keep pushing harder.

“It [the season] has been going well.

“I mean, I always try to look at how the team are performing

“I think we have been performing well.

“Still undefeated so far this year in the league.

“And so, we’ve just got to keep doing that.”

Gerrard will be hoping Rangers’ backline will do their job when they host Royal Antwerp in the return leg of the Europa League on Thursday as the Gers go into the game with a narrow 4-3 aggregate lead from their clash in Belgium last week.
