Struijk has represented the Netherlands at the Under-17 level and his performances this season for Leeds have led to interest from Belgium, where he qualifies for the national team as well.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez believes that Struijk could well play for the Netherlands but his agent, Tim Vrouwe, claimed that a final decision has not been made yet.

The defender has been invited to play for the Netherlands Under-21s, but his agent stressed that the player is not keen to rush into making a decision.

He insisted that once Struijk secures his Belgian passport, the defender will look at where he would have the best chance of playing for the senior national side before making the final decision.

“Pascal needs more time to make a good choice”, Vrouwe told Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

“This is not an easy decision for various reasons.

“He is absolutely flattered by the invitation from the Jong Oranje. But if he acts on it, he can no longer come out and play for Belgium.

“Playing for the first team of one of these superpowers is Pascal’s main goal.

“The moment we complete the Belgian passport procedure, he can then assess the sporting plans of these two countries.

“And only then he can make a final choice.”

Leeds signed him from Ajax in 2018 and he has played 24 times for Leeds’ first-team thus far.
