The 28-year-old joined Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven from Chelsea on a season-long loan last summer with a view to stepping up his return from a long-term knee injury.

The Dutch top flight club have helped him recover from the injury and return to action, handing him six appearances as a substitute in the league so far.

Having enjoyed his time at PSV Eindhoven, Van Ginkel has suggested that he would be open to staying with the Dutch outfit, but revealed that his future with the club depends on their plans.

The Netherlands international also joked that after such a long time on the books at Chelsea without playing he does not think he is in the Blues’ thoughts anymore.

I don’t think I qualify to play for Chelsea anymore. No, I don’t think so“, Van Ginkel laughed when asked by Dutch daily the Eindhovens Dagblad.

I have always had a great time at PSV and in the Netherlands.

But we also have to wait and see what PSV want in the future.

Van Ginkel’s contract with Chelsea runs out this summer but the Blues have an option to extend it by another year and the midfielder can see the club triggering the option to secure a transfer fee for him.

It is conceivable that they would still like to receive an amount for me“, the Dutchman added.

After all the years that they have invested in me, I would understand that.

Van Ginkel has been on Chelsea’s books since he joined from Dutch club Vitesse for a fee in the region of £8.5m in 2013.
