Kolasinac joined former club Schalke on loan until the end of the season in January after struggling to earn playing time at Arsenal in the first half of the campaign.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has gone on to establish himself as a regular at the Bundesliga club, who are keen to retain his services beyond the summer.

Schalke have informed Kolasinac of their desire to buy him from Arsenal, with the club’s sporting director Peter Knabel holding talks with the player.

However, the 27-year-old is likely to return to the Emirates Stadium when his loan contract with Schalke comes to an end, according to German magazine Sport Bild.

The north London outfit are not prepared to part ways with Kolasinac yet as they feel they are short of options in the left-back department.

Kolasinac, who has a contract with Arsenal until the summer of 2022, is also not ready to accept a reduced wage structure to join Schalke.

Schalke currently sit bottom of the Bundesliga table and will struggle to meet the left-back’s wage demands if they suffer relegation.
