The 23-year-old has been a key member of Roberto De Zerbi’s Sassuolo squad this season, contributing to five goals from 26 Serie A appearances so far.

Locatelli’s performances for Sassuolo have not gone unnoticed, with the midfielder earning his Italy debut last September and attracting interest from top clubs.

European heavyweights Juventus and Manchester City have been associated with a move for the Italian, who has insisted that he is not sure what the future holds.

Though he is not sure if the current campaign will be his last at Sassuolo, Locatelli feels he is ready for a big challenge and is not ruling out the possibility of moving abroad.

“I have grown up and I am ready for a big one”, Locatelli told Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.

“Playing abroad is an option for me and I’m not ruling out anything right now.

“I don’t like to talk too much about the transfer market because my agents and the Sassuolo hierarchy take care of this.

“I don’t know if this will be my last year here or what the future holds for me.

“When and if there are opportunities, we will evaluate them all together.”

Manchester City will be boosted by Locatelli’s comments that he would be open to moving away from Italy, but it remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola’s side will pursue a deal for him.
