Romero is Tottenham’s priority target in the ongoing transfer window and they have been in talks with Atalanta over agreeing on a deal.

After failing with an initial offer, the north London club are reportedly preparing a bid worth €55m and are confident of working out an agreement with the Italian outfit.

Barcelona have insisted that Romero is not a priority target this summer, but the Catalans are keen on the Argentine.

And according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Messi is pushing Barcelona to take Romero to the Nou Camp in the coming weeks.

The defender played a major role at the back for Argentina as Messi won his first international trophy in the form of the Copa America this summer.

The forward wants to reunite with his compatriot at Barcelona and is keen to see the club sign him.

Barcelona have failed with a first bid for the Atalanta defender and can only sign him on a loan deal with a purchase clause.

Messi himself is technically not a Barcelona player at the moment but is soon expected to sign a new contract with the club.
