After being relegated from the Championship last term, manager Darren Moore set out to build a squad that would have the best chance to take the Owls back to the second tier.

His squad was furnished with the arrivals of the likes of Lee Gregory, Saido Berahino, Sylla Sow and Dennis Adeniran while the Owls managed to retain the services of Josh Windass.

Cotterill, whose side drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, does not believe the Owls’ recent results are any cause to worry as any team will require time to fully settle.

The Shrews boss expressed his opinion that any of the players from the Owls side, if dropped into a Championship team, would not look out of place.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Cotterill said: “I wouldn’t be worried by what has gone on; I know they have had a couple of blips in the last couple of weeks but there is an adjustment period for players coming down as well.

“You have got a lot of players out there for Sheffield Wednesday who are Championship players.

“You can drop anyone of their players today in any Championship team and they would be absolutely fine.

“The fact that the club has ended up going down might not totally be their fault.”

The Owls will be hoping to make it back to the Championship at their first attempt and it remains to be seen whether the almost newly-assembled squad in the summer will be able to deliver on the fans’ expectations.
