Van den Berg joined Championship club Preston on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool in the summer following a successful temporary spell at Deepdale last term.

The Dutchman has established himself as a regular starter for Preston and scored his first goal for the side in their 4-2 victory over Morecambe in the EFL Cup last month.

As Preston prepare for their next EFL Cup tie, Lilywhites defender Cunningham explained that he was delighted for Van den Berg when he got his deserved goal against Morecambe.

Cunningham is of the view that the Liverpool loan star has been incredible since joining Preston and feels the centre-back is going from strength to strength with each passing game.

It was Sepp’s first goal so I was just delighted for him“, Cunningham told iFollow PNE.

He’s been incredible since he’s come to the club, we’re delighted to get him for the season and he just shows every game he’s going from strength to strength.

So I was delighted for him to get his first professional goal because with all the work he’s put in he deserves it.

Van den Berg followed his goal against Morecambe up by finding the back of the net again in Preston’s 3-1 victory over Swansea City in the Championship just four days later.
