Leeds have bucked the trend of early cup exits this season under Marcelo Bielsa by managing to reach the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

 

In a tough game in west London, Leeds edged Fulham out in the third round of the EFL Cup on penalties and sealed progress in the competition on Tuesday night.

 

 

Dorigo is delighted that Leeds are finally negotiating the early rounds of the cup and believes progress in the competition breeds confidence amongst the players.

 

The former White also stressed that the fans enjoying watching Leeds in the cups and insisted that a lot of young players look forward to making an impression in the EFL Cup.

 

 

Dorigo said on LUTV: “We haven’t [had conversations about progress in cup competitions] and it is nice to see.

 

“There is no doubt when you do go out of the cup it can certainly dent that confidence as well but at least we are winning ties and going through.

 

 

“The fans were incredible and there were so many fans here, enjoying the Carabao Cup.

 

“When you look at the cups and think how important are they?

 

“I’ll tell you what there were some young players out there that certainly love this cup, they have got their first bit of experience and a lot of fans enjoyed it as well.”

 

While getting their league season back on track is still their focus, Leeds will hope to go far in the EFL Cup this season.
