Rudiger is in the final year of his contract and Chelsea are in talks with him over a new deal as the club want to keep him.

But the negotiations have not been straightforward as the defender is believed to be demanding wages that would make him one of the highest-paid players in the Chelsea squad.

Bayern Munich are believed to be interested in him and are claimed to have been in contact with the player over a potential switch on a free transfer next summer.

Rudiger admitted that his next step could be the most important decision of his football career.

However, he insisted that other than Chelsea he is not in contact with any other club over his future.

The defender told German news agency SID: “For me, this will now be the most important decision of my professional career.

“I have never spoken to any other club than Chelsea.”

Rudiger has been a major player for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel and played a pivotal role in them winning the Champions League last season.
