Furuhashi played on the right of a front three led by Georgios Giakoumakis at the weekend as Celtic beat St. Johnstone 2-0 at Parkhead.
The Greek striker scored during the game, but Furuhashi was relatively quiet compared to his early-season form when he was causing havoc amongst opposition defenders when he was played down the middle.
Ferguson conceded that it is a dilemma for Ange Postecoglou as Giakoumakis clearly is a number 9 who needs to be played up front.
However, the former midfielder believes opposition managers would want to see Kyogo out in wide areas as he is much more dangerous when played down the middle.
He feels the Celtic boss need to find a way to play both in the same team while getting the best out of them.
Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “For me, I think a lot of managers would be happy with Kyogo playing out wide.
“Now, it’s a dilemma for Postecoglou.
“Does he now find a shape to play both up top because Giakoumakis clearly is a goalscorer?
“For me, Kyogo playing through the middle causes all sorts of problems and if you are an opposition manager and he is playing out wide, you are a happy manager.”
It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou changes his team’s shape when Celtic travel to Hibernian on Wednesday night.
