Kelly has not been active at senior level for the most part this season, making two appearances for the Rangers first team this campaign, both second-half cameos of less than 15 minutes.

The youngster spent the last two seasons out on loan and this window he was linked to a move to a number of clubs, both inside and outside Scotland.

St Johnstone, Livingston, Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic were all keen, but the player is close to heading out to England.

Salford City are on the verge of signing the Rangers man on loan and their part-owner and Manchester United legend Scholes played a pivotal role in bringing him to the League Two side.

Scholes personally sent a plea to Kelly to get him to sign for the Ammies and his efforts have reaped benefits as the youngster is all set to join the club on loan.

Kelly has three appearances to his name for the Rangers senior team but received much more game-time in his two loan spells.

He made 33 appearances for Ayr United in the 2019/20 season, scoring six goals and providing four assists, while in the last campaign he made 29 appearances for Scottish Premiership side Ross County.
