Salah has 18 months left on his contract and negotiations over a new deal are yet to yield an agreement between the club and the player.

There are suggestions that the winger wants to be one of the best-paid players in the Premier League but Liverpool are said to be reluctant to blow up their wage structure inside the squad.

Cascarino pointed out that Jurgen Klopp is in love with players who are willing to put in the hard yards and give everything on the pitch with their running and chasing down everything.

The former striker stressed that West Ham’s Bowen is the kind of player the Liverpool manager would love and believes he could be a great replacement for Salah at Anfield.

Cascarino said on talkSPORT: “Klopp seems to love players who are really tenacious, never give up and just chase.

“They don’t have to be technically absolutely brilliant because Mane is not.

“They are good but they are not technical geniuses in what you look at Bernardo Silva, David Silva and many others, they are not like that.

“But they are all tenacious, he really loves them.

“I actually thought if we lost Mo Salah, who could we logically go after, and I kept thinking the lad Bowen at West Ham seems to ticks those boxes.

“He is tenacious, he chases everything and he is decent technically but not extraordinary.”

Bowen has been on Liverpool’s radar but he has a contract until 2025 and West Ham are not prepared to sell him anytime soon.
