Hammers boss David Moyes is keen on bolstering his backline by bringing in a new centre-back before the window closes.

Although Kurt Zouma retuned to the pitch following a spell on the slidelines owing to injury, West Ham’s other first choice centre-back Angelo Ogbonna is likely to miss the rest of the season.

The capital club have identified Marseille man Caleta-Car as a potential recruit and are now mulling over launching a swoop for him.

However, West Ham prefer to bring in the central defender on loan in this window, while Les Phoceens want to sell the player.

Caleta-Car was close to leaving the Ligue 1 giants last January but a move to Liverpool never materialised and he was again strongly linked with an exit in the summer.

The centre-back has started for Marseille in their last five league games on the trot but the club are open to letting him go on a permanent basis.

West Ham are yet to make any new signings this month and only have a week left in the window to do any business.

It remains to be seen whether Caleta-Car will be handed an opportunity to play in the Premier League in the coming days.
