Newcastle have not signed another player since signing Chris Wood from Burnley by triggering his release clause in the second week of this month.

Since then the Magpies have been struggling to bring in more players despite several bids and approaches for players across Europe.

They failed in negotiations for Sven Botman and Diego Carlos due to their respective asking prices and are struggling to do a deal to sign Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United.

Eddie Howe wants to bring in two centre-backs, a midfielder and another forward at least before Monday’s transfer deadline.

But nothing is imminent at the moment and it is becoming more tense behind the scenes as frustrations over rejected bids keep mounting.

Newcastle have reportedly tabled a bid for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and are interested in Brighton defender Adam Webster.

However, for the moment no deal has been agreed for any of the two players and Guimaraes is reportedly not interested in the move.

Howe is desperate for players ahead of Monday’s deadline as his team have won just twice this season and are still in the drop zone of the Premier League.
