The Gers are gearing up for one of the biggest games in their history as they are set to lock horns with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final tonight at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville.

Sakala, who is playing in his first season at Rangers, has regularly featured for them in Europe, largely as a substitute and is again expected to play a part against the Germans.

While the Scottish giants are looking to put an end to their lengthy trophy drought on the continental stage, Sakala revealed that in addition to helping his team succeed, he is also aiming to complete his personal goal of becoming the first Zambian to win a European final.

The striker claimed that he is often vilified on social media, as a result of journalists in his homeland campaigning against him as he refuses to pay them to write otherwise, and stressed winning the Europa League would make his country appreciate his contributions more.

“It is a goal to become the first Zambian to achieve that [win the Europa League]”, Sakala told Belgian daily Gazet van Antwerpen.

“Then Zambia will love me.

“I am often vilified on social media.

“The reason: sometimes journalists call me to pay them so that they would write something positive about me.

“I don’t participate in that.

“The result is that some are campaigning against me on Twitter.

“I have always worked [hard] for my country.

“I have scored eight times in 17 international matches, so I really can’t understand it.

“Winning this final would [make me] very happy.”

The Rangers faithful have jetted off to Seville in their numbers and they will be hoping their team can pen another successful chapter in Ibrox history tonight by clinching European glory.
