The 22-year-old partnered Connor Goldson in the heart of the defence for Rangers in Wednesday’s Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, playing the whole 120 minutes for them.

 

Although the clash in Seville ended in heartbreak for the Scottish giants as fell to an agonising defeat on penalties, Bassey put on a strong display.

 

 

And former Premier League star Cundy has heaped praise on Bassey for the way he stepped up for Rangers in one of the biggest games in their history.

 

Cundy feels Bassey was the best player on the pitch in the final and insists he is destined to do big things as a football player.

 

 

“He [Bassey] looked sensational [on Wednesday night], absolutely sensational”, Cundy said on talkSPORT.

 

“I thought he was the best player on the pitch.

 

 

“He was immense.

 

“What a [talent]!

 

“We have done a little bit of a research on him.

 

“Born in Italy, plays for Nigeria, comes from Leicester.

 

“Honestly, he is destined for big things this kid, he was absolutely superb [on Wednesday night].”

 

Rangers will look to bounce back from Wednesday’s loss with a win on Sunday when they will take on Hearts at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final.
