The Scottish champions returned for their pre-season at Lennoxtown on Monday and unlike last summer they have no European matches in July as they have already qualified for the group stages of Champions League.

Celtic have so far signed goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist and made the loan move of Cameron Carter-Vickers permanent from Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window.

Postecoglou admitted that getting new players into the team early in pre-season is important, but not playing any competitive games in July is a big advantage for his side.

The Australian emphasised the need to work with his team in addition to strengthening the group because the majority of the players missed pre-season last summer due to the hectic schedule.

“Obviously the earlier we can get players in, the better but we’ve got a unique scenario of having a clean pre-season without any competitive games which is a great advantage for us”, Postecoglou told Celtic TV.

“Apart from strengthening the squad, just being able to work with the group of players we had last season in pre-season is going to be invaluable because most of them either missed pre-season or we threw them in during the season.

“Even working with the existing squad over the next three or four weeks with the coaching staff will be invaluable.”

Celtic will travel to Austria for a training camp and face SC Wiener Viktoria in a pre-season friendly on 6th July.
