The Magpies faced severe competition from AC Milan to secure a deal to sign the Dutch defender Sven Botman from Lille this summer, but came up trumps.

Eddie Howe’s side also secured deals for Nick Pope from Burnley and Matt Targett from Aston Villa this summer.

Newcastle are scheduled to return to the training ground today, and during the week, Howe will assess his squad to see which further additions are required moving forward.

The club were interested in Reims forward Hugo Ekitike and they were closing in on him.

However, the deal failed to materialise and Newcastle have shifted their attention to other targets.

It has been claimed that the Magpies will now take a slow approach in coming weeks as they evaluate their front options.

They are expected to look to add more options in the final third, but the transfer window is open until 1st September.

Newcastle are set to travel to Austria for their pre-season training camp and face 1860 Munich on 15th July at the SaalfeldenArena Burgerau.
