The Egypt international’s contract was due to expire next summer and despite suggestions he would not be able to find an agreement with Liverpool.

Several European clubs were interested in capturing the signature of the 30-year-old and Spanish giants Barcelona were one of them.

The Egyptian international finally put an end to rumours about his future by agreeing to a new three-year deal with the Premier League Club.

It has been claimed that Barcelona were in contact with Salah’s agent Abbas, who was told to keep the Catalan club informed about the player’s situation at Liverpool.

And the Catalan club were pushing for a pre-contract agreement with the Egyptian in January 2023.

Salah made 51 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the 2020/21 campaign, scoring 31 goals and laying on 16 assists, and also shared the Premier League golden boot with Heung-Min Son.

Having lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, Jurgen Klopp’s side moved swiftly to bring in Darwin Nunez and now Salah signing a new three-year deal will boost the confidence of the Reds for the upcoming season.
