Haaland has begun the season in fine form and currently leads the goalscoring chart in the Premier League, but is joint second in the Champions League behind familiar foe Robert Lewandowski, now of Barcelona.

The Citizens are looking to add a third Premier League trophy on the bounce to their collection, becoming the first side after Manchester United in 2009 to achieve that feat.

Gundogan believes that the Citizens have added a special player to their ranks in Haaland, as shown by his track record both on and off the pitch and added that they are both looking forward to facing their former club in Borussia Dortmund.

The 31-year-old admitted that having a number nine in the line-up is a big plus for his team and hopes Haaland’s presence will keep them in contention for the Champions League trophy at the end of the season.

I think [his adaptation has gone] very well and the numbers speak for themselves. I think the club has signed an incredible player”, Gundogan said in a pre-match press conference.

He has done well on the pitch, but his character, determination and attitude off the pitch [has also been impressive].

“We are both looking forward to the game against our old club.

We hope for it [winning the Champions League]. This year having a proper number nine is going to help us all a lot.

We will see and the Champions League is an incredible thing to achieve.

“It is never easy to play in this competition and sometimes little details can decide the outcome.”

Haaland has 12 goals and an assist to his name in just eight appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this campaign.
