Gvardiol has been in impressive form his club RB Leipzig over the last and current seasons and the World Cup further increased his profile.

The recently-concluded competition saw Croatia achieve third-place and Gvardiol did not miss a single minute, playing a key part in his national team’s journey.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in the RB Leipzig centre-back and they are claimed to have already put bids on the table for him.

But now they face big competition as Spanish giants Real Madrid are also keen on the Croatian star and could move for him in January, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Real Madrid want to rejuvenate what they feel is an ageing backline and believe Gvardiol would fit the bill.

Gvardiol’s contract with the German club runs until the summer of 2027 and they are planning to charge a heavy sum for his sale.

The Croatian has played 19 times for RB Leipzig this season and scored a goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League, in a 3-2 win for his side.

Chelsea are also credited with an interest in the centre-back and it remains to be seen who is willing to spend the cash and get hold of him.
