Eddie Howe’s side are flying high in the Premier League and they want to recruit Gordon to boost their Champions League qualification hopes.

Newcastle are holding talks with Everton in an effort to find an agreement to sign Gordon before the end of the window next Tuesday.

It has been suggested that the player has his heart set on the move to Newcastle and he missed three training days in a row before showing up at Finch Farm on Friday.

Everton are determined to bank as much as possible from selling Gordon and it is claimed Newcastle are struggling to agree a fee.

Newcastle still want Gordon, but are £5m off meeting Everton’s valuation of the winger.

At present, neither club are willing to change their stance and it is unclear where the compromise will come from to let Gordon move to St James’ Park.

Everton, who are currently managerless at the moment, are expected to appoint Sean Dyche as their new boss and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to convince Gordon to stay at the club.
