Skriniar is set to move on from Inter in the summer when his contract at the San Siro runs out.

He has already agreed on a contract with Paris Saint-Germain and the move in January only did not happen because the two clubs could not reach an agreement.

Several other European sides also had their sights on the Slovakian defender due to his contractual situation in Italy.

And according to Italian outlet InterLive.it, even Newcastle made an attempt to try and sign Skriniar in the winter transfer window.

The Magpies saw an opportunity to sign a world-class player in a low-cost operation due to his expiring contract.

They made contact with the defender’s representatives but those talks never moved forward as negotiations were PSG were advanced.

Ultimately, Newcastle were late to make their move as Skriniar had already made up his mind about moving to PSG.

He is more or less certain to move to the French champions on a free transfer at the end of the season.
