The Owls drew 2-2 away against Cheltenham after trailing by two strikes from Aidan Keena and Alfie May, but managed to rally back to snatch one point with the help of Aden Flint’s header and Lee Gregory’s 87th-minute finish.

Wednesday’s result indicates that the Owls have now picked up only two points from the last four games and missed their opportunity to go back to the top of the league table.

However, Stockdale insisted that the one point from the Cheltenham game will be highly important for their campaign and praised his team-mates for their willingness to keep fighting to salvage something from the game.

The Owls star also requested that Sheffield Wednesday’s faithful stick with the team and stressed that the players are giving their all on the pitch.

“I think it [the point] will be massive”, Stockdale told Sheffield Wednesday’s media.

“It’s a stepping stone and the biggest thing was the comeback because, if you went 2-0 up and it ended up 2-2, it becomes even flatter.

“So I think the comeback and the willingness from the lads to keep going and that fighting spirit, we never said it was going to be easy and it still will not be easy.

“I just implore the fans to stick with us and get behind us because we are putting everything into this.”

Sheffield Wednesday will now face 14th placed Lincoln City on Saturday and it remains to be seen whether Darren Moore’s men can end their poor run of form.
