Newcastle have finished the season fourth in the Premier League standings and have qualified for next season’s Champions League after a 20-year hiatus.

Eddie Howe’s men are now looking to bolster their ranks ahead of next season’s campaign as they are eyeing replicating this term’s impressive displays next season.

German gem Wirtz is a player that the Magpies have been repeatedly linked with and they could try to tempt him to St James’ Park this summer.

However, Carro believes that Leverkusen can make a compelling case for the 20-year-old to stay where he is for now.

He also stressed that Wirtz should stay put at the BayArena for his personal development as he will be allowed to make mistakes there.

With us, he can still develop, with us he is also allowed to make mistakes that might have different consequences elsewhere”, Carro told German daily the Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger while speaking about Wirtz.

He has outstanding quality, but for his personal development, it’s good to be here.

Referring to Wirtz’s contract with the German outfit until 2027, Leverkusen CEO said: “He’s happy, we’re happy, there are clear agreements – nothing will happen there.

Wirtz further amplified his reputation this season as he bagged four goals and eight assists in his 25 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions.

It remains to be seen now whether Newcastle remain in hot pursuit of the Germany international or look elsewhere to add to their midfield ranks.
