‘Not Due To’ – Clarification Over Imminent Transfer For Rangers Wanted Winger Talk

Rangers target Couhaib Driouech is missing from PSV Eindhoven’s matchday squad against Fortuna Sittard, but that is not because a transfer is imminent. 

Driouech is a wanted man this summer and PSV Eindhoven are prepared to cash in on him for the right price.

Rangers, who want to bring in another winger hot on the heels of capturing Daisuke Yokota, have had one bid for Driouech rejected, but remained in talks with PSV Eindhoven.

The Gers have not been far off PSV Eindhoven’s €8m to €8.5m asking price, however the chase has been complicated by Celta Vigo’s entry into the race.

Driouech would prefer La Liga over the Scottish Premiership, but it is unclear if Celta Vigo can reach an agreement with PSV Eindhoven.

PSV Eindhoven have left Driouech out of the matchday squad for this evening’s Eredivisie meeting with Fortuna Sittard.

That sparked instant talk that a transfer is now imminent for Driouech.

However, according to Dutch journalist Jeroen Kapteijns, his absence is because he is not fully fit and ‘not due to an imminent transfer’.

Driouech is considered to be not up to speed on the fitness front, meaning he has missed out this evening.

The Moroccan could still have well played his last game for PSV Eindhoven, given the level of interest in securing his services this summer, and the fact that the club’s next match does not come until next weekend, when they face Excelsior Rotterdam.

Whether Rangers can get a deal over the line for the speedy winger, who they also wanted before he moved to PSV Eindhoven, and see off Celta Vigo in the process now remains to be seen in the coming days and weeks.
