Arsenal: The Making of a Modern Super-Club
By A.Flynn & K.Whitcher
Have you ever wondered how a club builds itself up to become one of the biggest in the land? This book is an interesting behind the scenes look at how Arsenal FC got so big, became so rich, and became so powerful. By the time Arsene Wenger launched his revolution on the pitch, one was well underway off it.
The key to this book, and what makes it so accurate, is that the authors Alex Flynn and Kevin Whitcher, had unrivalled exclusive access to the corridors of power within the Emirates Stadium. Chairman Peter Hill-Wood, former CEO David Dein, and Arsene Wenger too, all were happy to co-operate fully with Flynn and Whitcher. Chapters on the development of the new ground and the ensuing controversy over the selling-off of the naming rights make for particularly compelling reading. This really is an excellent look at how a huge football club is run behind the scenes, as a business. For anyone wanting to know more about today's workings of a football club, this is a highly recommended and readable book.
