Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout
By Simon Hughes
A new book and one that promises much. Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout offers a peek not just at scouting, but at the scouting of some of the best players to have ever played the game. Geoff Twentyman scouted some of the stars who helped Liverpool to dominate the English game in the 70s and 80s. He watched Alan Hansen, Ian Rush, Graeme Souness, Kevin Keegan, Ray Clemence, Steve Nicol and Steve Heighway to name just a few.
Twentyman was Liverpool’s chief scout between 1967 and 1986 and this book is the result of his diary, unearthed by his family and fortunately published here. Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout offers a fascinating glimpse at the stories behind the signings and tells Twentyman’s scouting story over that ultra successful period. A real must have for Liverpool fans and anyone else interested in the life of a chief scout at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
