Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has returned from his trip to the Middle East and was quite impressed with what he saw. Gillett was seeking to play down expected news on a possible takeover of the club by Saudi Arabian prince Faisal, and refocus media attention onto joint ventures between the two parties in terms of academies and youth development.
Gillett told Sky Sports News: "The facilities here are as nice as I’ve seen in the world. I was pleasantly surprised. I think there are some wonderful opportunities for us to work together."
Focusing on youth development the Liverpool co-owner continued: "They are committed to both facilites and programmes to bring youth to a higher level in all sports, but particularly in football."
With the focus of the media having been on a potential takeover, it seems both sides are keen to play this down for the moment. However, it is highly likely these are continuing behind the scenes.
