Real Madrid suffered possibly their most humilating defeat ever last night as they were simply crushed by Second Division B side AD Alocorcon. The Galacticos fielded a strong side for their Copa del Rey first-leg match and saw a team including Raul Albiol, Rafael van der Vaart, Guti, Royston Drenthe, Mahamadou Diarra, Raul and Karim Benzema crushed 4-0.
Alocorcon sit in Spain’s Second Division B, Group II and took to the pitch as minnows compared to Real’s expensively assembled team of superstars. The scoreline read 4-0 by the 53rd minute and there were even chances for Alocorcon to increase the size of the rout.
Coach Manuel Pellegrini, who is already coming under increasing pressure at the Bernabeu, appealed for fans to forgive the side. "There’s no explaination", said the Chilean to Marca, "We were focused and the training sessions were very good, but Alocorcon played very well. We hope the fans can forgive us after this defeat."
That Jerzy Dudek can be considered the man of the match for Real Madrid is an indication of the lesson they were handed by the team which has never met a La Liga side. The 3,000 capacity Municipal de Santo Domingo stadium had never before witnessed such scenes.
