After suffering an ankle injury in Holland’s 0-0 draw with Italy at the weekend, Arsenal’s Robin van Persie, who is expected to be out for six weeks, is desperate to ensure his time on the sidelines is kept to a minimum. With The Gunners firing on all cylinders as of late, the former Feyenoord striker will be gutted to miss out on some key matches. Such is his eagerness to get fit and firing again, van Persie has decided to visit a specialist in Serbia to undergo an unorthodox special massage treatment.
Van Persie said to The Times, “She [the specialist] is vague about her methods, but I know she massages you using fluid from a placenta. I am going to try. It cannot hurt and if it helps, it helps. I have been in contact with Arsenal physiotherapists and they have let me do it.”
This unfortunate setback brings an end to a run of form that has seen the Dutchman score eight goals in 14 appearances, helping the London side climb to just three points behind leaders Chelsea with one less game played. If Arsenal are to make a serious challenge in this year’s title race, a fit and firing Robin van Persie will surely be indispensable.
