Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies, is on course to return to action early next year as he continues to recover from a shoulder operation that he had last September . The 24-year-old had been playing with a shoulder injury in the back of half of last season, but was forced to undergo surgery after aggravating it earlier in the campaign. Amidst reports that he has suffered a setback in his recuperation, manager Martin O’Neill has cleared up the issue.
"Contrary to what was reported last week, there have been no setbacks or anything like that regarding Curtis," he said to the Daily Telegraph. "In fact, he is doing very well. We will wait for the specialist report, which will be coming in very shortly. It is one of those injuries where you wouldn’t be tempted to rush anyone back beforehand but Curtis is doing very well.”
Davies, who was a rock for Aston Villa last season, will face stiff competition upon his return, with the arrival of West Ham’s James Collins and Mancester City’s Richard Dunne in the summer.
