With speculation linking free-agent Sol Campbell to a possible Manchester United move, Sir Alex Ferguson has denied any possibility of the transfer, and has further expressed the unlikelihood that any January signings will be made at all. Despite facing an injury crisis in defence, Ferguson states the lack of value in the market has put him off.

It’s been suggested we were moving for Sol Campbell — which was all wrong — because we don’t have the money and we wanted to take somebody cheap. The money is there if I want to use it and it was there in the summer, but I don’t think there is any value in the market, that is why I didn’t buy anyone,” Ferguson explained to The Times. “I am happy with what I have brought to the club,” he concluded.

Manchester United will look to continue their run of impressive results when they face a stern Aston Villa side this Saturday.
