Reports from Japan, and specifically newspaper Nikkan Sports, suggest that Shinji Ono is preparing to leave Bundesliga side Bochum and head home. The 30-year-old, who first came to Europe to join Feyenoord in 2001, is believed to be keen to make the move back to Japan, with Shimizu S-Pulse thought to be a possible destination.
Ono remains one of the biggest stars in Japanese football, despite never having made the breakthrough to a top level European side. His biggest honour in the game remains the 2002 UEFA Cup victory with Feyenoord. Ono has also appeared in three World Cups for Japan.
The Japanese star joined Bochum in 2008.
