Despite Liverpool’s current unenviable predicament, manager Rafael Benitez has boldly guaranteed his side will finish in the Premier League’s top four. Many have ruled out the Reds’ chances of achieving Champions League football next year, prompting speculation that stars Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard could be on their way out at the end of the season.

I can guarantee we will finish in the top four,” Benitez said to The Times. “They [Torres and Gerrard] knew we had a different situation to other clubs and that we have to manage that. We have lost some opportunities, but still we have the FA Cup and the Europa League, and we will try to improve in the league and achieve something more.”

Such confidence of a turnaround will be pleasant to hear for the Liverpool supporters, but until results start to come, Benitez and the rest of the club continue to remain under immense pressure.
