Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has warned the club’s owners against sacking manager Rafael Benitez. The pressure is continuing to build on the Reds manager as the Anfield side struggle to make any kind of impression on the Premier League this season. Torres though is sure that removing Benitez, as significant sections of the Liverpool support now want, would be the wrong move.
"I think sacking the manager is not a solution," said the Liverpool striker. "The players are the people who have to find a solution to the situation."
The Spain forward also suggested that the arrival of new players would help the club, but also accepts that money within Anfield is tight at present. "If we can bring in quality players it should be really positive for us. But I think the situation is really difficult because I don’t think we have the money to bring in the best players."
The intervention of Torres in support of Benitez is significant and will help to strengthen the hand of the Spanish boss. However, with Torres under contract until 2014 at the Premier League club, an exit appears unlikely whatever the fate of Benitez may be.
