Barcelona are preparing to intensify their efforts to sign Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, according to Catalan daily Sport. Fabregas has long been identified as Barcelona’s priority signing for next summer, when they believe the ex-Barca youth-teamer will be ready to come home.

According to the report, work has already begun at the Camp Nou on preparing the ground for an approach to Arsenal. This work will take on greater importance throughout January and February.

There are several reasons for Barcelona to up their efforts to bag Fabregas’ signature before the summer transfer window opens. President Joan Laporta is keen to finally end a chase many years in the making and further solidify his presidency by being he who brings Fabregas back home. Coach Guardiola also feels Fabregas could be one of the final pieces of the jigsaw for the European Champions.

And finally Barcelona are aware of the interest of Real Madrid. Losing Fabregas to Florentino Perez’s Galacticos would for the Camp Nou giants be a disaster.
