France Football has reported Manchester United are tracking Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini and Palermo’s young Danish defender Simon Kjaer. The English giants have been suffering from an unprecedented defensive crisis this season that has seen them repeatedly deploy midfielders in the back four.
Attempts to sign the coveted Chiellini will not be without competition though, with neighbours Manchester City reportedly very interested in the Italian international as well. The Citizens are said to be willing to part with €12M to sign the 25-year-old defender.
Davide Lippi, Chiellini’s agent, has claimed the likelihood of his client switching clubs in the January transfer are grim, but has not ruled out a possible transfer in the future, saying, “I cannot ignore the interests of both Manchester clubs.”
