Japanese playmaker Keisuke Honda has left Dutch club VVV Venlo and headed east to sign for CSKA Moscow. The 23-year-old had attracted attention from Liverpool and Marseille in the summer transfer window whilst PSV were also rumoured to be monitoring developments. The Moscow side though have pipped all three to Honda’s signature.

Many will express surprise at Honda’s willingness to head for the Russian league but the Japanese international himself had no doubts over the move. He told CSKA’s website "I would not have gone [to CSKA] had there been just 1% of doubt in my mind."

Honda has signed a four-year deal with the Moscow based club and now has a break before the new Russian season begins in early this year.
