Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted defeat in his bid to sign Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh in the winter transfer window. Chamkah had recently stated his desire to see out the campaign at the Ligue 1 club and Wenger is respecting his decision.

The Gunners boss was quoted in France Football saying, "Chamkah is in the Champions League and also fighting for the Ligue 1 title with Bordeaux, so he will not move now."  Wenger did hint at a future interest however, commenting, "It is just four months from the end of his contract, and not in Bordeaux’s interest to sell."

Whilst with the injury to Robin van Persie, Wenger knows he must enter the transfer market for striking reinforcements, he does not yet appear to have settled on his targets. Speaking of drawing up a shortlist the Arsenal boss said, "For now I feel like when I was a student and had to revise for an exam. I do not yet know what I will write."
