Hertha Berlin captain Arne Friedrich has turned down a move to current Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg. With Hertha 10 points from safety, sitting rock bottom of the table, Friedrich’s loyalty has surprised many in German football.
The 30-year-old explained his reasoning for staying in the capital, telling football magazine Kicker, "I am not a Judas, I have responsibility."
Wolfsburg have been long time fans of the German international centre-back and there was talk of an €8M transfer in the summer window. Now it seems that Friedrich will remain with Hertha Berlin until the end of the season when, should they be relegated into the 2.Bundesliga, he would surely have to review his vow of loyalty.
