Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has conceded that youth product Craig Gardner could be on his way out of the club. Hampered by a groin injury, the 23-year-old has made just a single appearance for the Villians in the 2009/10 season.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, O’Neill said, “A number have enquired but there’s been nothing definite. In an ideal world, I’d like him to stay but players like to play. He’s one I’d like to keep but it might not be possible. He’s not sure about things. His training has been good but he’s a bit down.”
Gardner enjoyed 25 appearances in the 2007/08 campaign and went on to improve that total by one more in the subsequent season. His fortunes have taken a downturn this term however, with injury and the emergence of other players keeping him from virtually playing any part in the team. Birmingham and Wolverhampton are reportedly frontrunners for acquiring the player’s signature.
