Arsenal have been rocked by news that their talismanic captain Cesc Fabregas will be out until February, according to the Daily Telegraph. The Spaniard has been recovering from a hamstring tear suffered against Aston Villa, and has not been responding to treatment as quickly as first projected. Compounding the bad news is the departure of Alexandre Song for African Cup of Nations duty, leaving the Gunners light in midfield.

There is some positive news for Arsene Wenger’s squad however, with long-term injury victim Nicklas Bendtner close to a return to action. “I’ve felt a lot of improvement and I was able to sprint for the first time on Sunday. I was a bit quicker than I expected," Bendtner said in the Daily Telegraph. “I will start training with the ball on Tuesday and then finally I can see an end to this nightmare.”

Arsenal are still well in the title race, currently third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Chelsea, but with a game in hand. They continue their bid to leapfrog second-placed Manchester United when they entertain visitors Everton at the weekend.
