Newcastle captain Nicky Butt is considering the possibility of retiring when his contract expires at the end of the season. The 34-year-old joined the Magpies in 2004 from Manchester United after his playing chances became more and more limited with the emergence of promising midfielders.
“I haven’t made any decisions about my future yet. I’m just going to take it as it comes. I’m signed until the summer and I will see how I feel then. If I’m offered another deal here, I will certainly think about it, but it will depend how I feel. If I feel great, I will carry on; if I don’t, that will be that,"he said in the Journal.
Butt has an impressive trophy cabinet, boasting six Premier League titles, a Champions League title, and three FA Cups among others. When he finally decides to hang up his boots, a future in coaching seems on the horizon, “I did start my coaching badges a couple of years ago, but it’s been put on hold for now.”
