Newcastle captain Nicky Butt is considering the possibility of retiring when his contract expires at the end of the season. The 34-year-old joined the Magpies in 2004 from Manchester United after his playing chances became more and more limited with the emergence of promising midfielders.

I haven’t made any decisions about my future yet. I’m just going to take it as it comes. I’m signed until the summer and I will see how I feel then. If I’m offered another deal here, I will certainly think about it, but it will depend how I feel. If I feel great, I will carry on; if I don’t, that will be that,"he said in the Journal.

Butt has an impressive trophy cabinet, boasting six Premier League titles, a Champions League title, and three FA Cups among others. When he finally decides to hang up his boots, a future in coaching seems on the horizon, “I did start my coaching badges a couple of years ago, but it’s been put on hold for now.”
