In response to a £9M offer made by Birmingham for striker Kenwyne Jones, the Daily Mail reports Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is lining up a loan deal for Schalke’s Keven Kuranyi. The Blues have been busy in the January transfer window, already securing a deal for Sporting Gijon’s Michel, and are awaiting responses for bids made for Celtic’s Aiden McGeady, Liverpool’s Ryan Babel, and Sunderland’s Kenwyne Jones.

Ironically, Birmingham also targeted Kuranyi as a possible acquisition, but were put off by the player’s £3.5M a year wage demands. The German footballer is now at the end of his contract, and is understood to be relishing the opportunity to test his skills in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old, who was born in Brazil, was part of a the famous Stuttgart team that comprised former Arenal player Alexander Hleb and Phillip Lahm that wowed supporters with scintillating attacking football.
