Robert Pires, who played a critical role in Arsenal’s famous 2003/04 unbeaten season, is unsure over his future with Spanish side Villareal. The Frenchman, who is now 36-years-old, is in the final year of his contract, and has yet to be offered an extension.

"It’s only up to Villarreal. If the club wants to let me go because it receives offers I will leave because it would have meant the president didn’t want to trust me and to offer me a one-year extension,” Pires said according to ESPN Soccernet. “But if the club wants me to stay, given I can help them to reach a European cup, I will play my best."

Pires is desperate to have an opportunity to have European Cup success after playing only 12 minutes in Arsenal’s 2006 Champions League final defeat against Barcelona in what was his last game for the North London club.
