Juventus’ Tiago Mendes is in the Spanish capital to finalise a loan deal with La Liga side Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish paper Marca. The Portuguese player has found first-team opportunites in Turin very hard to come by and Atletico manager Quique Sanchez Flores has been quick to capitalise on his situation.

Tiago has agreed to join the struggling side until the end of the season with an option for a permanent deal should Juventus and Atletico agree on a fee. The former Chelsea and Lyon player is the first acquisition made by the Spanish side who after finishing fourth last season, are desperate to improve their inexplicable 11th position in the league at present.

With only 37 appearances to speak of after two and a half seasons with Italian giants Juventus, Tiago is aiming to re-establish himself as a world-class midfielder with Atletico.
